Winter working warning from MPA Mortar
The need to take special precautions to protect against frost attack in newly laid masonry has been underlined in a warning from MPA Mortars.
If the temperature of newly laid mortar falls below 0°C there is the probability of some form of frost attack. The water in the mortar may freeze and expand therefore forcing the material apart and breaking the bonds.
To increase frost resistance in winter conditions in the hardened state of mortars, MPA Mortar members supply specially modified factory-produced mortars. These include carefully controlled air entrainment.
