Guild of Bricklayers competiton 2015 final winners announced
Winners have been announced of the final of the 2015 Guild of Bricklayers national competition, held at the Leeds College of Building on 17 June.
Overall winner was Osian Flynn of Coleg Menai who was presented with the MIA cup by chairman of MIA’s marketing group, David Stewart. Mr Flynn also received a silver salver, cash prize and certificate.
Hamish Adamski of Redcar & Cleveland College took second place, with Tom McDonald, York College, third.
The 12 finalists, drawn from the senior winners and best two runners up of the Guild’s ten regional competitions, had six hours to produce a brickwork model incorporating both decorative and special features.
MIA members additionally supported both the regional competitions and national final by the free supply of factory-produced mortar.
MIA director, Brian James, has reiterated the association’s dedication to the promotion of top level bricklaying skills: ‘MIA member products play such a fundamental role in the UK construction industry it makes great sense for us to help support the training and development of young bricklayers to ensure we continue to have the necessary skills available to build the homes, schools and other buildings we so desperately need.’
