MIA sponsored Architect's Choice Award goes to London mews
Winner of the 2014 Brick Awards Architect's Choice category, sponsored by the Mortar Industry Association, was Rockbourne Mews, London, designed by husband and wife team, Robert and Jessica Barker.
The Brick Awards, held in London on 12 November, were again very well supported with MIA chairman, Steve Lodge, making the presentation of the Architect's Choice Award. This award is decided through the votes of qualified and student architects and this year saw a record number of votes cast.
Rockbourne Mews is a three-house, sustainable development, created around a shared outdoor area. The award commendation reports that angles and brickwork sections work well to create a private, yet spacious environment. The brick chosen is said to create a light and airy habitat and complements the London stock buildings surrounding the mews.
Much attention to detail has been paid by Robert and Jessica Barker with one of the houses being their own home, making material choices a very personal decision. |
