Results of the Final Guild of Bricklayers National 2017 Competition
Brooklands and Derby colleges provided the national winners of the senior and junior titles at the Guild of Bricklayers 2017 competition finals held at Derby College on 21 June.
Senior section winner was Tyler Pearce, Brooklands College, while the junior first prize went to Morgan Chambers, Barnsley College.
Tyler Pearce became the third winner of the MIA cup, put up by sponsor, the Mortar Industry Association, which through its producer members has supplied mortar for all stages of the competition. Tarmac Building Products’ Iain Betts was on hand to present the awards along with Guild of Bricklayers president, Phil Vine Roberts.
In the senior section, Jack Markham of Burton and South Derbyshire College took second place, while Jordan Ireland, Riverside College was third.
Junior section second place went to John Moore, West Suffolk College with William Austin, Derby College third.
MIA manager, Gearoid Kennedy said: ‘This year’s final was wonderfully competitive and very well organised. MIA is proud to help the Guild maintain standards when there is a growing demand for bricklayers to help meet housing needs using traditional building methods.’
